Re-arranged Yorkshire Branch Langley Mill walk

All who tried to get to our first walk following the relaxation of Covid restrictions will know that it had to be postponed, thanks to a suicide attempt on the railway south of Sheffiled which closed the line and prevented our leader Richard (and several others on the same train) from getting to Langley Mill. The weather also was atrocious, with battering rain.

Richard will now lead this walk on Wednesday 16th June, so keep your fingers crossed that nothing untoward will happen on that day! The details are the same:

Wednesday 16th June 2021 Langley Mill Circular (6 miles). Meet at Langley Mill Station at 11.40 on arrival of the 10.09 Northern service from Leeds to Nottingham via Sheffield (dep 11.06). Map 129. A walk with various railways and a great deal to see. We will catch a bus to Heanor, to walk via Shipley to the site of Marlpool Station and the former Woodside colliery where the winding gear and power house are still intact. Following a mineral tramway to Shipley lock on the Erewash Canal, we then take the towpath back to Langley Mill basin where 3 canals meet. Bring a packed lunch; drinks and snacks are available at the start and end of the walk. Leader Richard Lewis, tel 07764-795932. Pre-booking not required.

I hope to see you there this time, for our second attempt at a new walk for us.

Jane Ellis
